Laura Raney

Ms. Raney graduated from Penney High School in Hamilton, MO—the home of J.C. Penney! She attended the University of Central Missouri for her Bachelor’s in Spanish Education and her Master’s in Education. After teaching for several years, she earned her Master’s in School Counseling at Emporia State University. Ms. Raney loves sports and traveling, and she is a part-owner of the Green Bay Packers. She spends most of her time with her daughters, her chihuahuas and her husband.

Ms. Urenda is a graduate of Wichita Southeast High School.  She attended Emporia State University for her bachelor's degree in English education and then a master's degree in School Counseling.  Ms. Urenda went to college on an oboe scholarship.

Mrs. Reda is a graduate of Liberal High School.  She attended Emporia State University for her bachelor's degree in Physical Education and Health.  Then a master's degree in School Counseling also from Emporia State University.  Ms. Reda is left-handed.

Ms. Heller graduated from Lawrence High School and then went down the road to KState where she earned her BA in Secondary Education (she’s certified to teach English and Psychology).  Her MS degree in School Counseling is from UMKC.  Ms. Heller loves to read, write and hike in her spare time!

  Mr. Davis is a graduate of Shawnee Mission West High School.  He attended Emporia     State University for his bachelor's in Business education degree and then a master's   degree in School Counseling.  For being unique, Mr. Davis has spent his educational   career at the high school he attended!

  Kathryn Harter



 Ms. Harter graduated from Corona Del Sol High School.  Even though she grew up in Arizona, she’s never visited the Grand Canyon, but it’s on her bucket list!  Ms. Harter majored in Developmental Psychology and Sociology in college and earned her Master of Social Work Degree from The University of Kansas.

Donna Holmes



Mrs. Holmes is a graduate from Lee Summit High School in Lee Summit, Missouri.  She earned her bachelor's in Early Childhood and master's degree in Social Work from University of Kansas.  Mrs. Holmes was a high school cheerleader.  She does yoga but can no longer do the splits.

  Alyssa Pengra


Ms Pengra graduated from Souteast of Saline High School (Go Trojans!).  She earned her BA in Psychology from Washburn University (2008), her Ed.S. in School Psychology from KU (2011) and her Building Level Leadership Endorsement from Fort Hays State University (2022).  She’s equal parts health/wellness aficionado (hot yoga, organic goods, mindfulness) + junk food consumer (hello caramel lattes and mint chocolate chip ice cream.  It’s a paradox!

Mrs. Hays is a graduate of Shawnee Mission West.  She earned an Associates in General Studies from Johnson County Community College.  All of Mrs. Hays' family are SMW graduates! 





Bill Martinie

913-993-7808 Mr. Martinie is a SM West graduate (Class of 1995)! He has a BA in English from K.U.  Mr. Martinie is a massive book lover and has about 1300 on his shelves at home!

Melissa Yanak     


Mrs. Yanak has worked at SM West for 22 years!  She is a graduate of Casa Grande High School in Casa Grande, Arizona.  She attended the University of Arizona and JCCC.  Her husband and daughter both attended SM West!  She has three grand-cats.



 Spanish Interpreter - At SMW Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 

Claudia Shriner,,  913-993-7840

Ms. Shriner graduated from Instituto Oriente in Puebla Mexico (her hometown).  In KC she took courses at JCCC in Pronunciation and Conversation English, worked as a Medical Interpreter at Children’s Mercy Hospital, and worked at Propio Agency as Medical Interpreter.  Her husband, John, graduated from SMW in 1982! She loves 80's, 90's music, dancing, movies, travel, Chiefs, KU, walking, Zumba, and spending time with her family (twins Jenny and Johnny and cat Ore0) and friends.  She likes to help the Hispanic Community!
